Asylum seekers can open a bank account.

So far you have to come to the Sozialamt every month to get your money cash. Now it’s possible to transfer the money to an account of you in Germany. Then you have to come to the Sozialamt of the ditstrict in the city of Neu-Ulm only every third month and show your bank statements of the last three months. If you have already opened an account in Germany, please tell us the bank details on the enclosed form (IBAN and BIC).

If you want to open it at the Sparkasse Neu-Ulm or the Volks- und Raiffeisenbank Neu-Ulm/Weißenhorn, the  Sozialamt Neu-Ulm could send the necessary documents to the bank. So you needn´t go to the bank yourself. This procedure is appointed with the Sparkasse Neu-Ulm and the Volks- und Raiffeisenbank Neu-Ulm/Weißenhorn and the banks prefer it. In this case, please lend authority to us with the enclosed form.

If you want to open the account at another bank, you have to arrange this yourself.
The documents you need vary from bank to bank. In any case you need at least an official Picture Identification and your Permission of Residence in Germany. Please send the following form also back to the Sozialamt.
